MGS Codec - Privacy Policy
1) Overview
MGS Codec is a fan-made, novelty dialer experience. It is designed to be privacy-first: it does not create accounts, does not include analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and does not collect or transmit your personal data to the developer. Everything you do in the App happens on your device.
2) Data controller
Salvatore Boemia (the “Developer”), independent developer of the App, is the data controller for the limited processing described here. You can reach the Developer regarding this policy at salvatoreboemia.dev@gmail.com.
3) Contacts (optional)
You can type a number manually on the keypad, or optionally pick a contact using the standard iOS contact picker. If you choose a contact, the App receives only that selected contact’s phone number and, where available, its photo, solely to populate the on-screen dialer and avatar during your session. This information is used locally, is not stored on the developer’s servers, and is not transmitted anywhere by the App. You are never required to grant broad contacts access to use the App.
4) Audio
The App plays bundled sound effects locally. It does not record, access the microphone, or transmit any audio.
5) In-app purchases
The App may offer optional in-app purchases that let you support the developer (for example, a “buy me a coffee” tip). These are voluntary and, at present, do not unlock features. In the future, optional cosmetic items (such as themes or skins) may be offered. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store: the Developer never receives your payment card or billing details. To confirm a purchase, the App may receive a transaction identifier and status from Apple’s StoreKit; this is not used to identify you personally.
6) Analytics, advertising and tracking
None. The App contains no third-party analytics, no advertising networks and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. It does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and does not present App Tracking Transparency prompts.
7) Third parties
Aside from Apple (as the App Store distributor and payment processor for in-app purchases), the App does not share data with third parties. Apple processes limited download, diagnostic and purchase information under Apple’s own privacy policy, independently of the Developer.
This website and the App’s product page may link to the App’s official Facebook page. If you follow such a link, Meta Platforms processes your data under its own privacy policy, over which the Developer has no control. Visiting these external pages is optional and is not required to use the App.
8) Legal bases (GDPR)
On-device processing (including optional contact selection) relies on the performance of the feature you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and the Developer’s legitimate interest in providing a functional app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Optional contacts access is based on the permission you grant through iOS, which you can withdraw at any time in system settings. No special-category data is processed.
9) Data retention
The App does not persist selected contact data beyond your active use and does not store personal data on any server. Any local preferences remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App.
10) Security
Because data stays on your device, its protection depends on your device security (passcode, encryption, system updates). Keep your device and operating system up to date.
11) Children
The App is a general-audience novelty app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 16.
12) Your rights
Because the Developer does not hold your personal data, rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability can be exercised directly on your device (including revoking contacts permission in iOS settings). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
13) International use
As no personal data is transmitted to the Developer, the App performs no international transfer of your personal data. Purchases are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms.
14) Not affiliated
MGS Codec is an independent, fan-made tribute and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any game publisher or trademark holder. All referenced trademarks belong to their respective owners.
15) Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes are published on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
