Coffee Mode - Privacy Policy

Effective date: 22 July 2026 · Applies to the Coffee Mode application for macOS (the "App").

1) Overview

Coffee Mode is a lightweight macOS utility that simulates small cursor movements to keep your Mac awake. It is designed to be privacy-first: it does not create accounts, does not include analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and does not collect or transmit your personal data to the developer.

2) Data controller

Salvatore Boemia (the "Developer"), independent developer of the App, is the data controller for the limited processing described here. You can reach the Developer regarding this policy at salvatoreboemia.dev@gmail.com.

3) What data the App processes

The App works locally on your Mac. Your preferences - such as the activity interval, on/off state, launch-at-login setting, chosen menu bar icon, appearance (light or dark), and any automation rules that trigger Coffee Mode based on another app being open or closed or on a schedule you define - are stored locally in the App's settings on your device and are not transmitted to the Developer.

4) Launch at login

If you enable the "Launch at Login" option, macOS starts the App automatically when you log in. This uses Apple's standard system APIs for login items and does not involve any data collection beyond the on/off preference stored locally.

5) Automatic activation rules

If you configure Coffee Mode to activate or deactivate automatically based on whether a specific application is running, or based on a time schedule, the App checks this information locally on your device only, to decide when to turn its own function on or off. This information is never transmitted anywhere.

6) In-app purchases

The App offers an optional, voluntary tip jar in-app purchase to support the developer. Tips are consumable and unlock no additional features. They are processed entirely by Apple via the App Store and StoreKit; the Developer never receives your payment card or billing details.

7) Update checks (network)

To let you know when a newer version is available, the App may query Apple's iTunes lookup service (itunes.apple.com) using the App's own bundle identifier. This request contains only the app identifier and standard connection metadata (such as your IP address, visible to Apple as the service operator); it does not include your personal data and is not used to profile or track you. This interaction is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

8) Permissions

The App does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, or documents. It only performs the cursor-activity function you enable, along with the login-item and automation settings described above.

9) Analytics, advertising and tracking

None. The App contains no third-party analytics, no advertising networks and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.

10) Third parties

Aside from Apple (as distributor, payment processor for the tip jar, and provider of the version-lookup service), the App does not share data with third parties. Apple processes limited download, purchase and diagnostic information under Apple's own privacy policy, independently of the Developer.

This website and the App's product page may link to the App's official Facebook page. If you follow such a link, Meta Platforms processes your data under its own privacy policy, over which the Developer has no control. Visiting these external pages is optional and is not required to use the App.

11) Legal bases (GDPR)

Local processing relies on the performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and the Developer's legitimate interest in providing a functional app and notifying you of updates (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). No special-category data is processed.

12) Data retention

Local settings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App. The Developer holds no personal data on any server and performs no server-side retention.

13) Security

Because data stays on your device, its protection depends on your device security (account password, disk encryption, system updates). Keep your Mac and macOS up to date.

14) Children

The App is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 16.

15) Your rights

Because the Developer does not hold your personal data, rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability can be exercised directly by managing or deleting the data on your device. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

16) International use

The App does not transmit your personal data to the Developer. Update checks and tip-jar purchases are served by Apple; any related processing is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

17) Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes are published on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

18) Contact

Questions about this policy can be directed to the Developer at salvatoreboemia.dev@gmail.com. See also the Terms & Conditions.
